LEAVING A LEGACY

THE consolse made its Japanese debut on June 23rd, 1996 and then released in America on September 29th just 3 months later. The Nintedo 64 became the first home console to run 3D graphics at the time, it was also the first to feature the analog stick to its controller. Selling for an original price of $199.99 it managed to sell 20.63 million in the Americas alone, and a world wide total of 34 million units. The N64 released with very minimal games at launch, titles only included Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64; in spite of that, the n64 still managed to sell 300,000 units in its launch day in the Americas alone.
THE n64 would soon run into trouble with shortages of the consoles happening wolrd wide, but by the time holiday season came up Nintedo managed to sell a total of 1.5 million units in the U.S. alone. It would then go on to release some of its most iconic games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye 007, Star Fox 64, and Mario Kart 64 throughout its time; as a result, the n64 gained over 400 games in total in its library. On April 2002 the production of n64 ceased operations and made way for the next future of Nintendo, the GameCube released on September 14th 2001 marking the end of the Nintendo 64 console.

THE CONTROLLER

WHILE the n64 system it self pioneered the way for 3D console gaming it was actually the controller that had an even longer lasting impact. The n64 controller was the first to feature the analog stick, a feature that we now see in every game controller from every major console developer. The analog stick made it possible to play 3D games on home console systems, allowing for full 360 control; as a result, changing the way that gamers can manipulate their world, and having more pin-point accuracy, a feature only available to the PC at the time. The controller also allowed developers to have more options in game design, with Goldeneye 007 being the first successful console shooter; as a result, it popularized the first-person shooter genre. After the analog stick featured on the n64 it became the preferred way to play on console, marking the n64 legacy with every controller that has one.

THE console also had many accessories that released along side with it, either to help with performance or personalize your console.
