How much did you know about the subject of Internet Publishing before you started this course? Had you ever done any similar kind of work in the past?
I have been working on computers for 25 years primarily as a graphic designer. I know very little about internet publishing technology. I knew nothing about creating HTML nor CSS. I had never written any computer code. I don’t know if this course had any prerequisites, but my impression was that it was introductory. How would you explain the course to someone else?
PROS: There are a lot of resources here, so the wealth of information has given me a much clearer vision of the internet publishing process.CONS: Not having a face-to-face instructor has been challenging. I found that there was a tremendous number of links, reading, tutorials, videos, etc. but they were not always put together in a cohesive easy-to-understand format. Some teachers were clearly better than others. If it were not for Covid, I would probably not do online learning again. This course demanded much more time than I would expect for a 1 credit course. On average, I spent 15-20 hours/week on assignments, but couldn’t figure out how to decrease that. It would help if you could differentiate between required things, and items that may have been supplemental or optional. I really want to learn the material, but this was more than I bargained for.
CONSTRUCTIVE SUGGESTIONS:
- If the Instructor created and uploaded a 2-3 minute video each week explaining what was expected for that week, then it would help the students save a great amount of time.
- Give the videos and articles a rating system of importance (1 of little importance, 5 greatest importance). You cannot retain all of the information in all of the material so prioritizing would help.
- Reduce the material significantly or increase the credits.
Describe at least two things you learned or discovered through completing the assigned activities.
- The difference between HTML and CSS.
- The importance of getting each character correct.
